Our knowledge of Him comes from The Word of God
This morning, I was glancing over this wonderful verse that’s displayed on a magnet upon my refrigerator:
II Peter 1:3-4
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
As I read it, the phrase bolded, “through our knowledge of him” was highlighted by the Holy Spirit within my spirit.
And therefore, I began to ponder it within, comparing it to other verses I knew by memory, and some conclusions began to form.
Here are the other verses:
Hosea 4:6
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.
Proverb 9:10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
II Peter 3:18
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen.
Ecclesiastes 7:12
For the protection of wisdom is like the protection of money, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it.
Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
These verses are by no means “exhaustive”. They are only the ones that came to my own mind this morning. You may wish to find more in your own concordance.
BUT, in a nutshell, this is what I received, to share:
The divine power that is available to each of us is in direct proportion to our obtaining knowledge of Him and His Word and Will.
We “grow” in this grace and knowledge, and “obtain wisdom” which is then able to preserve our life, and give us the understanding to handle day-to-day decisions, based upon believing the promises of God and obeying the will of God… Receiving his very divine nature within us, as we take in this knowledge, enabling us to escape the corruption caused by evil desires.
SO, my friends, I exhort you in Jesus’ name, to GAIN KNOWLEDGE! … of God and Christ!
Don’t be one of those “that perish” for lack of it! In the days ahead, we are going to need all the knowledge we can obtain, of our Lord, and from our Lord…
And we will be depending upon His promises… and on what he says of good and evil, right and wrong, etc.
We will be deceived and perish if we lack knowledge!!
This is, therefore, both an exhortation and a warning to get into the Word of God!
A great starting place in your quest for knowledge and wisdom is in reading a chapter of Proverbs for every day in the month, i.e., on the 3rd read Proverbs 3. On the 15th, read Proverbs 15. On the 28th, read Proverbs 28… and do that each day of each month, each month of the year. It is very-enjoyable reading and can be the beginning of your quest for knowledge. Go ahead and start at your chapter for today! You’ll love this quest for wisdom!
And remember, knowledge from the Lord does not turn to wisdom unless applied.
Some of us “know” many godly truths, but do not “obey” or “apply” them…and then it is to no advantage.
What you read must be mixed with faith, and then it results in God’s divine power being released into your life… daily.
Take a close look at Hebrews 4:2…
“For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.”
This verse is to alert us that we can’t just receive the Word… preached or read or received in any other manner … it must be “embraced with faith” or it will not profit us.
What exactly does that mean?
Well, I encourage you to “receive it” and “believe it” and “live by it” and “let it take root within you” that it may “change you permanently” through “Your Knowledge of Him”!
You may just want to write that down on the inside cover of your bible, as a reminder! Remember this is an exhortation from the Spirit!
Enjoy your quest for knowledge of God and Christ Jesus! Herein is YOUR HOPE for handling the future with wisdom and confidence! His Divine Power will then “activate” within you! Amen?!
May you be blessed with ever-increasing Knowledge of Him.
